Babysitter's Training to be held at the M.S. Kirby Library
The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct 3 sessions
of the Babysitter's Training this summer at the Marian Sutherland Kirby
Library. This course is offered to youths aged 11 to 15. Each class
consists of two half day sessions. Participants must attend both days to
receive certification.
A $40.00 course fee made payable to the M.S. Kirby Library is due upon
registration. Registration may be taken via the telephone with a Visa,
MasterCard or Discover credit card. Registration may not be accepted
without payment. Refunds are not possible without 24 hour notice prior to
first session.
The dates of the training are the following Wednesdays & Thursdays:
June 25 & 26, July 16 & 17, & July 30 & 31. The classes will run from 9:30
to 1:00 each day.
The Babysitter's Training allows youths the opportunity to gain skills and
the confidence they need to be a competent babysitter. Course instruction
includes essential care-giving and decision-making skills, safety skills to
prevent and respond to emergencies and tips on finding and interviewing for
babysitting jobs.
The library is located at 35 Kirby Ave., Mountaintop. Stop in to register
in person during library hours: Monday, Thursday & Friday 9:00 - 5:00,
Tuesday & Wednesday 9:00-9:00, and Saturday, 9:00 - 1:00. For further

METAMORPHOSIS @ YOUR LIBRARY! 2008 TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM SIGN UP BEGINS JUNE 16! AGES 12 & UP.
Metamorphosis @ Your Library Marian Sutherland Kirby Library Teen Reading Program 2008
The teen summer reading program theme this year for ages 12 and older is
METAMORPHOSIS @ YOUR LIBRARY The focus is on change-changing yourself on the
inside and outside, changing your surroundings, and changing the world
around you. Registration begins on Monday, June 16.
Start recording books read on Monday June 23. For each library book a teen
reads, a ticket is earned to be entered into a drawing to win prizes at the
end of the program. The more books read, the more chances to enter! The last
day to record books on the reading log is Saturday, August 2.
A new feature this year for teens is a container of free books in the Young
Adult room for teens to choose a book from to read and enjoy while supplies
last. When finished, pass it on to a friend or return it to exchange it for
another choice.
Teens may also participate in writing book reviews to share their opinions
about the books they read. An extra ticket will be given to any teen who
hands in a Teen Book Review to the Circulation Desk. The reviews will be
displayed in the Young Adult Room.
Teen programs scheduled include:
Monday, June 23 at 10:00 a.m.-Introduction to Mixed Martial Arts for Teens
with Circular Strength Trainer Geoff Dixon. Learn some basic techniques of
mixed martial arts, the fastest growing sport in the country!
Monday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m.-Introduction to Prasara Yoga for Teens with
Circular Strength Trainer Geoff Dixon. Learn a dynamic form of moving yoga
that builds strength and tones muscles while it stretches the body and
relaxes the mind.
Monday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m.-Introduction to Tai Chi for Teens with Circular
Strength Trainer Geoff Dixon. Explore this moving meditation practice to
help focus the mind and energize the body.
Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m.-Teen scrapbooking project "My Metamorphosis"
conducted by Peggy-Jean Spaide. Record your personal metamorphosis by using
pictures of yourself from various stages of your life.
Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 a.m.-Metamorphic Heroes conducted by Herb King
discusses the character changes that create Super Heroes and Super Villains.
Classic heroes Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman will be covered as well
Buffy and Hiro. Develop your ideal Hero.
