Dear Friends of the Library,
We've moved not our location, but rather our annual appeal campaign! After much
consideration, the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library has decided to permanently move
the campaign from the fall to the spring. Now that the library will not competing
with school fundraisers and holiday expenses, we hope that you have a bit more time
to think about this public institution, its contribution to the community, and how
you might support it. Every dollar matters to us.
As you know, in 2006, the library refurbished its main floor thanks to funding from
the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Foundation. Last year, a grant from the Guilford Foundation
will allow refurbishment of the children's area and community rooms. Your contribution
will help fund the library's much needed security system. Such a system will help preserve
the current collection and reduce replacement costs for years to come.
Additionally, your donations will go towards the library's operational costs, from the
purchase of new materials to merely keeping the lights on. We pride ourselves in providing
relevant, up-to-date resources for students of all ages as well as the general public. We
sponsor a variety of programs services, such as the summer reading program, holiday activities, and
tax assistance from AARP.
No matter the amount, your contribution during the Annual Appeal is a vital part of our funding
that will enable us to continue to serve the community. All donations are tax-deductible. Again
every dollar matters.
Sincerely,
Diedre A. Murphy, President
Board of Directors
